Aldo Leopold Elementary School- Madison The Leopold Parent Faculty organization will add native plants to a rain garden located between the playgrounds and parking lot to replace plants that were lost last year due to heavy spring rains. 60
Aldo Leopold Nature Center-Monona Aldo Leopold Nature Center is expanding a native rain garden near the front entrance of the building. The expansion project involves removing invasive species and planting native species to improve the rain garden while providing pollinator benefits as well. 76
Arthouse Preschool- Waunakee Arthouse Preschool would like to create an interactive native garden in front of their preschool and child care center. The plan is to create artistic signage for all native plants, signage that is seasonally significant, and to host 3D artworks within the garden. This garden would become an interactive space for students to experience, as well as the community. 120
Badfish Creek Watershed- Stoughton The Friends of Badfish Creek cleared an area near the boat launch of invasive species and are looking to restore this are by adding native plants. 320
Chicory Meadow Park- Fitchburg For the past several years, a group of dedicated volunteers have worked to beautify Chicory Meadow Park by removing invasive species and replanting with natives. This year, plants will be added to an existing butterfly garden, and a new area will be cleared to establish another native garden. 80
Crestwood Elementary School-Madison Native plants will be added to an existing prairie restoration area along the woods behind the school, as well as a pollinator garden in front of the school. Second grade students study pollination during their science unit and will be learning about native pollinator plants. They will water and maintain the planting areas while they learn about pollination. 108
Dane County Humane Society-Madison Dane County Humane Society has been working on habitat restoration projects over the last several years and are looking to continue adding to their gardens. They have installed several gardens near the Wildlife Center that provide natural food (flowers, seeds) for their wild patients to help them return to the wild. The native plant garden also functions as an outdoor classroom for the Camp Wild Side participants. 100
Dunn Town Hall The Town of Dunn will be installing a sandhill crane sculpture at the Town Hall and would like to surround the sculpture with native plants. 300
Eastwood-Atwood Triangle Park (Adopt A Median Program)- Madison Native plants will be added to the five garden beds at Eastwood-Atwood Triangle Park that were previous overrun by weeds. This is a highly visible greenspace that is visible to lots of cyclists, walkers, and motorists. 100
Edna Taylor Conservation Park- Madison The Friends of Edna Taylor Conservation Park will work with the City of Madison to plant natives in areas where invasive trees, shrubs and other weedy brush have been removed. This will assist in the ongoing ecological restoration and of the park's plant communities. 152
Elderberry Neighborhood- Madison In 2024, the Elderberry Neighborhood Assocation installed 225 plants near Burnt Sienna Pond in a 30 x 30 section as the first phase of a native plant beautification project. Additional plants are needed to fill in gaps between existing grasses and flora. Burnt Sienna Pond is located near the west end of Elderberry Street and Schewe Path. 124
Elm Lawn Elementary School-Middleton Elm Lawn elementary school is looking to plant native plants at various sites on the school property and will involve teachers, students, and parents in the process. 400
Hoyt Park- Madison Friends of Hoyt Park will work to restore native vegetation to an area where they previously removed invasive brush. 300
Indian Mound Middle School- McFarland Native plants will be used to start a new garden specifically designed for our middle school students with disabilities (grades 6-8), and available to all 550 students at the school. This initiative aims to create an accessible, engaging, therapeutic, and educational outdoor environment where students can learn valuable life skills, develop a deeper understanding of ecology, and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of horticulture. 20
Lakeview Park East- Middleton Volunteers with the Middleton Beach Neighborhood Association plan to expand the wildflower garden located along Mendota Avenue in Lakeview Park. 252
Lapham Elementary School- Madison Lapham Elementary is planting a native butterfly/pollinator garden in their Outdoor Classroom and Community Garden. Students will be able to observe the garden from the playground and use it as an educational tool during classes. 20
Liberty Land Park- DeForest Native plants will be added to an existing pollinator garden near the community gardens. We look to continue to grow the size of the pollinator garden as the community garden continues to grow. The gardens feature bee houses that were newly installed in 2024 by Girl Scouts. 52
Madison Area Food Pantry (Forward Gardens)- Middleton Native plants will be planted along Old Sauk Road on the west side of Forward Garden and also in a new rain garden that will be created as part of a Conservation Plan. The goal of this project is to establish native gardens that will support native pollinators and help stormwater from the buildings and driveway to soak into the ground. 200
Madison Christian Community Volunteers will add native plants to an area planted in 2024 and restore two rain gardens along Old Sauk Rd in front of the church that have been taken over by invasives and weeds. 240
Madison Country Day School- Waunakee Plants will be added to an existing pollinator garden as part of an educational activity during Spring Service Days. Fifth graders will research why the plants are native and how they support local ecosystems. They will also determine proper spacing for the plants and learn about their maintenance needs. 252
Madison West High School Native plants will be added to three garden boxes that were completely rebuilt last year by the Environmental Club. Students in the Environmental Club will have the opportunity to experience planting a garden while learning the "do's and dont's" of gardening. 100
Maywood School- Monona A new garden is planned at Maywood School that will feature native plants. Plants will be tended by classrooms and summer camp groups, as well as other volunteers. 100
McFarland Church of Christ (Girl Scout Project) McFarland Church of Christ will add a native prairie to their property. The prairie is part of a local Girl Scout Gold Award project and will include educational signage explaining the positive impacts a prairie has on the neighborhood and what differences there are between floral and grass prairies. 500
McGaw Park- Fitchburg This project is a pilot used to demonstrate how native plants can replace turf grass. If successful, this pilot project will be replicated throughout the City of Fitchburg to reduce mowing cost, increase stormwater infiltration, provide wildlife habitat, and beautify City of Fitchburg parks and open spaces. These plants will be planted along the driveway of McGaw Park, a highly visible location in one of the City's most used parks. 60
Messiah Lutheran Church- Madison Messiah Church will be converting several turf grass areas to native plantings to reduce the maintenance, provided habitat, and reduce stormwater discharge. 500
Mount Horeb Welcome Center- Mount Horeb Native plants will be incorporated into two large beds in front of the Mount Horeb Welcome Center. The goal is to create a beautiful and inviting landscape, complete with signage that displays plant names and highlights the benefits of native plants. 24
New Morning Nursery School-Madison Native plants will be added to a multi-tiered garden space within one of the playgrounds at New Morning Nursery School (within the Wingra School property). It is a public space, members of the community are also able to use the playground and enjoy the gardens. 16
O'Keefe Middle School- Madison A new rain garden is planned to provide an example of how humans can make minor changes to positively impact the local environment while promoting sustainability. Art students may have the chance to craft signage, and students can also help weed and water to establish the gardens. 300
Oakwood Village Lutheran Homes- Madison Oakwood Village is on the path to becoming a sustainable community. These plants will be used to replace an annual garden which does not support native critters. These habitat-building natives will help create year-round interest. They will also provide opportunities for everyone in the Oakwood community to learn about native plants and observe native pollinators in action. 52
Olson Elementary School- Madison Olson Elementary will restore a garden in the front of the school that was previously overrun with weeds. Students will do the planting to learn about how to start and maintain a native garden space. 32
Orchard Ridge Elementary School-Madison Native plants will be used to fill in areas of an existing pollinator garden, and with sufficient plants, volunteers and students will be able to add another pollinator section in the garden. 60
Owen Conservation Park- Madison The Friends of Owen Conservation Park plan to add native plants to an existing native plant garden near the parking lot of Owen Conservation Park. This garden will be used in a series of educational events including a rainwater simulation demonstration, a general stormwater walk, and a soils-focused walk. 60
Quarry Hill Conservancy- Middleton The Friends of Quarry Hill Conservancy plan to work on eradicating invasive species within the conservancy and planting native species to beautify the conservancy for the public to enjoy. 28
Sheehan Park- Sun Prairie Sun Prairie Parks Friends are creating a pollinator garden near the baseball fields. Plants will be labeled to help educate park users about native plants. 120
St. Luke's Lutheran Church- Middleton Native plants will be planted in a new gathering space for youth and adults with a fire ring and seating. The native garden will be used with education programs. 352
Stoner Prairie Elementary School- Fitchburg The mission of the school’s Outdoor Classroom and Community Garden is to provide students, teachers and families with a garden to support experiential, garden-based learning. In the spring, students get an opportunity to come out to the garden to plant a seed, seedling or plant, and in the fall, kids harvest, winterize, and plant spring bulbs. Garden activities are aligned with school curriculum where possible. Native plants received through this program will be added to an existing native plant area. 52
Van Hise Elementary School- Madison The goal of this project is to revamp a garden space near the school playground to create a garden space that allows for plant exploration. The garden will be a space where students can take a book walk, walk a calming path, explore native plants, and learn about plants during their science classes. 52
Villa's Childcare Center- Oregon A new native garden is planned at the Villa's Childcare Center. The plants will be used to teach kids the importance of taking care of the planet by providing important habitat and food for wildlife and pollinators. 32
Waunakee Community High School The Hillside Prairie is an "unmowed" area within the athletic complex adjacent to Waunakee Community High School. It is currently populated with brome grass, other common weeds, small shrub/tree specimens, and a population of whorled milkweed. The project aims to restore native species and increase the biodiversity of this plot. The project is part of a student SAE (supervised agricultural experience) project and other students from the Conservation Club and Ecology class will be involved in prepping the site and the installation and upkeep of the site. 100
Wildwood South Prairie Park- Fitchburg The City of Fitchburg has contracted for the past few years to remove invasive plants from the park. The Wildwood Neighborhood Association plans to use plants received through this program to replace the invasives. 100
Winnequah School Garden- Monona Native plants will be added to a school garden that has primarily featured annual plants in the past. This project will enable the school to teach students about native plants, their role in sustainability, and how they benefit the environment and wildlife. 152
Woodland Montessori School-Madison Woodland Montessori is looking to add natives to their new rain garden, as well as the front walkway garden that faces the public and is currently filled with invasive species. This project will provide numerous learning opportunities for Woodland Preschool students. 100
